Global Course on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) for Professionals Working with Children
The Global Course on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) for Professionals Working with Children is an international training programme designed for professionals who support children and families affected by war, humanitarian crises, and emergencies.
In Ukraine, the course is being implemented by Community Self-Help in partnership with The Boston Children’s Hospital Global Health Program by Harvard University (USA).
The programme combines internationally recognized, evidence-informed approaches with the practical experience of Ukrainian professionals and has been adapted to address the realities and challenges of the war in Ukraine.
Since 2024, more than 340 professionals from government institutions, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, emergency response services, and civil society and humanitarian organizations have completed the course. A national network of certified trainers has also been established to deliver the programme across different regions of Ukraine and support its continued expansion.
The programme is intended for professionals working with children, adolescents, and their families, including:
* Psychologists and psychotherapists;
* Social workers;
* Teachers and educators;
* Healthcare professionals;
* Representatives of the National Police, State Emergency Service, child protection services, and mobile support teams;
* Staff of humanitarian and civil society organizations;
* University lecturers and faculty members;
* Other helping professionals.
The programme consists of six interconnected modules covering contemporary approaches to mental health and psychosocial support for children and families.
Throughout the course, participants:
* deepen their understanding of the impact of war, stress, and traumatic experiences on children;
* learn practical approaches to providing mental health and psychosocial support;
* develop skills for working with grief, loss, crises, and complex situations;
* strengthen competencies in family engagement and interagency collaboration;
* acquire practical tools for self-care, prevention of professional burnout, and maintaining their own mental well-being.
In addition to the core course, the programme includes:
* Training of Trainers (ToT);
* Supervision provided by Ukrainian and international experts;
* Regular mentoring meetings;
* A professional trainers’ community;
* Cascade trainings delivered by certified trainers across Ukraine.
This comprehensive approach ensures not only the transfer of knowledge and practical skills but also continuous professional development, peer support, and the long-term sustainability of high-quality training.
Graduates of the Training of Trainers programme become part of a professional community that delivers training, exchanges experience, participates in supervision, and contributes to strengthening Ukraine’s mental health and psychosocial support system.
